People at our Laboratory believe that a new generation of intelligent mobile devices will become pervasive in coming few years. Equipped with different types of sensors, the user of such device can:
–write on the touch screen with finger or a stylus pen to input characters;
–use natural and intuitive human computer interface such as digital inks;
–use a digital camera to capture text on paper or read text information from scene;
–detect and analysis human behavior (eg. activity, facial expression analysis );
–detect and understand natural objects through video/image processing.
People at the Laboratory are developing some advance component technologies to make the above Human-Computer Intelligent Interaction a reality. Our current research interests include:
–large vocabulary handwriting recognition;
–digital inks and its application;
–video-based Chinese OCR (Optical Character Recognition);
–facial image analysis, facial expression recognition;
–activity recognition based on gravity sensor (eg accelerometer);
–generic object classification;
–theory and applications of pattern recognition and machine learning.
